The great thing about tech life is that you can embrace the future without completely leaving the past behind.

First, I want to thank @QuietBob for this amazing post recently!!!!!!

I spent the whole day yesterday on my WinXP machine and I've got some great finds to share! :)

The Legacy Update project is a complete replacement for Windows Update on retro systems. It's an online service which mimics the original MS Update and even uses the familiar Internet Explorer interface. It supports Windows 2000 to 8.1. Finding the right updates, downloading and installing them is fully automatic. You can also review and select the updates that you want.

For XP it can be used to spoof the OS ID to that of Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 (if you pick that option during setup). This lets you install updates until April 2019, long after the official support ended in 2014. Now we can enjoy the most current WinXP installation possible!

It found 148 Embedded updates for my fully updated WinXP Home SP3 system. The whole process went on without a hitch and took 1 hour and 45 minutes with the components below:

And for the curious (and brave),Retro Windows Wiki appears to be the most current web browser for WinXP. It's an actively developed fork of Firefox 68, making it much newer than the last browser with official XP support, FF 52.9.0 ESR. Browsing with Mypal seems no different than using any modern browser. So far all sites look and navigate correctly, including the ones that were broken on 52.9. Mypal supports popular FF extensions, and fixes the irritating stutter that 52.9 often has.

It's amazing that a 23 year old operating system can still be used to browse the web normally. Posting this from the actual machine

Plop Boot Manager

Thanks to @lexluthermiester, we have an amazing nostalgic boot

manager for installing DOS and other things to older systems

Windows 95 and 98 Updates Restored:

I will start this out with my old Asus P5A Super Socket 7 Motherboard and AMD K6-2 350mhz

I purchased these items on 02/02/1999. I paid $199.99 for the motherboard and $149.99 for the K6-2:wtf::wtf::wtf::laugh:

Put up your picture and I will include you in the club on the original post

Okay, I know these next items are not really what could be called "nostalgic" however they are getting rare and getting pretty old in computer technology. My Grandson and I are going to build this for him (he is 8:p). He is just so into computers and all the gear that goes along with it. The motherboard is an Asus A8N-SLI Premium s939 sporting a dual core Athlon 64 3800+ with a Thermaltake Blue Orb II and running 2gb's of crucial DDR400 ram.

The video cards are of course EVGA 8800GTX SuperClocked. One of the cards I picked up from the original owner with the original box and all the accessories, and the other is a matching card but no box.

When the grandson and I get this together, it should really be a pretty sweet system. Will be putting Windows XP on the system, since that is what the little guy is used to:p

Thanks to our very own member LiNKiN I now have an awesome ATI 9800 Pro AGP to add to the collection!!!!! Thanks a ton man. :rockout:

Wow, just about forgot this crazy 5 1/2" Quantum BigFoot 1.2gb hard drive! LOL. God these things were crazy drives in their day! Heavy as hell.

Now here is a couple of items that I found yesterday that I just had to share LOLOL

And some DOS goodness:

And thanks to our own member ThE_MaD_ShOt I now have an awesome Abit NF7 with a mobile XP2400+ to add to the images!!!! Thanks a ton bro!!!:respect::respect::respect:

Okay just picked this combo up today from the shop that I am currently at:

Have had this a couple of years now. I guess one could sort of consider a GTX560 as nostalgic? LOL

The Ole Alienware:

Specs are:

Asus P5Q-E

QX9550

4 gigs DDR2 1600

500 gig Seagate Constellation

EVGA 8800GTX

Now 3 pictures :)

Grabbed this new in box unopened Opteron 275 for the cost of shipping!

Member list was getting so long that I put it in a spoiler for everyone.
