AMD RX 6800 strange FAN noise
Mar 04, 2024
I have bought a second hand RX 6800 Asrock Challenger Pro, i am fully satisfied with the results, however after cleaning (dust removal with compressed air, thermal paste cleaning and reapplying) i have noticed some strange noises from the GPU.
First I tought it is choilwine, as the sounds mostly appear when GPU is in high usage ( Gaming, BF5 2K 1440p Ultra mostly), but after comparing to choilwin3 samples from youtube I realized it might be something else.
I started to test fan turation, and I noticed when GPU fan reaches 60% it starts to sound, and between 60-80 it's the worst.
My brother accidentally loosened the screws from fan because he tought it's needed to be able to reach the middle of the GPU where main chip is located ( thermal paste became like glue and it was hard to tear it off), but he strengthened the screws right away back, as they were, but the issue was still the same after recheking.
I have rechecked the GPU FAN screws agian, and It seemed like one of the screws became loose, and I replaced it, and all others were recheked, to make it sure ther were installed back correctly.
After that I experienced significant improvement between 30-50 % in terms of noice reduction, but the issue still persists.
I will attach two videos, one before rechecking GPU FAN screws, second one after fixing them.
